Configuring Connect Xf Plugin

This document explains you how to install the Connect Xf plugin for Thunderbird version 3.1.16 and update Qota, Vacation Reply, and Password settings for Connect Xf server from within the Thunderbird client.

Note:

The procedures mentioned in this document are tested on Thunderbird version 3.1.16. This may change in future versions of Thunderbird. Please refer to Thunderbird documentation for exact set of instructions for your version.

Prerequisites

Before installing the ConectXf plugin make sure that

  • Connect Xf version is 3.6 or onwards
  • Thunderbird Version 3.1.16 or above is installed on your machine
  • Your Email account is configured on your machine
  • Installable Connect Xf Plugin version 1 (Connect Xf.xpi) file is ready with you

Note:

You can download the Connect XF.xpi file from Connect Xf server.
Download path (ConnectXF.xpi) : http://<Connect Xf server Name>/plugins/ThunderbirdConnector/ConnectXF.xpi
For example: http://acmecorp.co.in/plugins/ThunderbirdConnector/ConnectXF.xpi

Installing Connect Xf plugin

If your machine is ready with the Prerequisite installed on it you can start the process of installing the add-on.

Following steps guide you to install the Connect Xf plugin on your machine.

To install Connect Xf plugin

1. Start Thunderbird on your machine.

2. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Add-Ons to display Add-ons window.

3. On Add-ons window, select the Extensions tab and click the Install button to locate the Connect Xf plugin file.

5. Click the Install Now button.

6. Click the Restart Thunderbird button to complete your changes.

Add SSL Certificate

After successful installation of Connect Xf plugin, you need to add the self signed SSL certificate. This is necessary as the plugin connects to the Connect Xf server over the SSL protocol.


Following steps help you to understand the process of how to add certificate.

To add SSL certificate

1. Start Thunderbird.

2. On Menu bar, select Tools > Options to display Options window.

3. On the Options window, select the Advanced tab.

4. On the Advanced tab, select the Certificates sub-tab and click the View Certificates button which opens Certificate Manager window.

5. On the Certificate Manager window, select the Servers tab and click the Add Exception button.

The Add Security Exception window is displayed.

6. On Add Security Exception window, enter the string “https://<Server Name or IP address>” (For example, "https://192.168.0.54") in the Location box and click the Get Certificate button.

7. Click the Confirm Security Exception button to complete the add SSL certificate procedure. Then, click the Ok button on respective window to exit.

Tip:

You can check whether the exception is added for the server with the port number. You can open the Certificate Manager window to view these details.

To open Certificate Manager window, click Tools > Options > Advanced > Certificates > View Certificate.

The following figure shows Certificate Manager window with SSL certificate details. In which, "192.168.0.54" is the server ip address and "443" is a port number.

Updating Connect Xf Settings using a Thunderbird Client

After successful installation of Connect Xf plugin, Connect Xf Settings sub-menu item is added under Tools menu and the Xf button is added to toolbar of your Thunderbird interface. Now, you can update the settings like Quota, Vacation Reply, and Password for your Connect Xf server using Thunderbird client.


To update Connect Xf Settings

1. Start Thunderbird.

2. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Connect Xf Settings.

OR

Click the Connect Xf Settings icon on toolbar to open Connect Xf Account Settings window.

3. On Connect Xf Account Settings window, click to select the Account for which settings needs to be changed.

4. On ConnectXf Account Settings window,


i. Enter password associated with your Connect Xf login and Port No.

Note:

This port number should be same which is present on Certificate Manager window. You can refer to the Certificate Manager window to find the port no.
ii. Click the Login button.

Note:

An error message is displayed if you are failed to login. Re-enter the password and check if correct port number is entered. Then try to login again.

After successful login, the details of the logon user are displayed in Connect Xf Account Settings window.


5. Select the Quota tab to update the Quota settings for the Connect Xf server. Update Quota.


6. Select the Vacation Reply tab to update the vacation rely settings.Update Vacation Reply.


7. Select the Password tab to change the password to access Connect Xf server.Update Password.


Update Quota

To update quota

1. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Connect Xf Settings.

OR

Click the Xf icon on toolbar.


2. On Connect Xf Settings window, select the Quota tab and click the Update button to update the changes.

3. On the Authentication for human Interaction window, enter the correct text displayed in window and click the Ok button.


The quota settings are updated successfully only if correct text is entered in the box.

Note:

You must enter the correct text on the Authentication for human Interaction window to save the changes.

Update Vacation Reply

To update vacation reply

1. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Connect Xf Settings.

OR click the Connect Xf Settings icon on toolbar.


2. On ConnectXf Settings window, select the Vacation Reply tab.


3. Update the settings as required and click the Save button.

4. On the Authentication for human Interaction window, enter the correct text displayed in window and click the Ok button.

The changes are saved successfully only if correct text is entered in the box.

Note:

You must enter the correct text on the Authentication for human Interaction window to save the changes.

Update Password

To update password

1. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Connect Xf Settings.

OR click the ConnectXf Settings icon on toolbar.


2. On Connect Xf Settings window, select the Password tab.


3. Enter correct values for all fields and click the Change button.

4. On the Authentication for human Interaction window, enter the correct text displayed in the window and click the Ok button.

The changes are saved successfully only if correct text is entered in the box.

Note:

You need to enter the correct text on the Authentication for human Interaction window to save the changes.

Uninstall the Connect Xf plugin

You can follow the procedure described below to uninstall the Connect Xf plugin. If you remove the Connect Xf plugin from your machine, you can not update the settings for ConnectXf server from within the Thunderbird client.


To uninstall the Connect Xf plugin

1. Start Thunderbird on your machine.

2. On the Menu bar, select Tools > Add-Ons.


3. On the Add-ons window, select the Extensions tab.


4. Select the ConnectXf plugin and click the Uninstall button. A confirmation message is displayed.

5. Click the Uninstall > Restart Thunderbird button to remove the Connect Xf plugin from your machine.
