Set up a chat account on BlackBerry device

Configure a chat account on your BlackBerry device to keep in touch with your colleagues on the go.
Choose the application and follow the steps mentioned below to configure your account.
Refer the troubleshooting topic if you face any problem while configuring the account.

Set up a Chat Account using Xabber Client

This document explains how to set up a chat account on your BlackBerry smartphone using Xabber application. Xabber is a chat client which allows you to chat with the contacts present on your chat server.


Steps to set up an account

1. On the Home screen, tap Xabber icon. All the XMPP accounts display on the screen.

2. Tap Add account to open Add account screen.

3. On the Add account screen,

  • Make sure the XMPP type is selected in the Account Type list box.
  • In the Username box, enter your your complete Jabber ID.
Note: For Mithi's chat system, Jabber ID is the same as your email address, that is username@<domainname>.
For example, if your
Email id is john.smith@acmecorp.co.in, then
Jabber ID is john.smith@acmecorp.co.in
  • In the Password box, enter the password associated with your account.

  • Tap Add account. Xabber tries to connect the server using the the settings provided.

Note: If Xabber fails to connect to the server then tap the account to update the account settings. Account <Your Jabber ID> screen displays.

4. On the Account screen,

  • Tap to select the Custom host check box.
  • Tap the Host box and enter the server name or IP address of your chat server. For example, mailxf.acmecorp.com, 192.168.0.222
  • Make sure the Port box value is 5222.
  • Set the Priority value 2.

Note: If the priority of the chat application on Mobile client and web client same, you will receive chat messages on both the clients at the same time.

The default priority value of the Baya chat application is 2 so you should keep the same value for the chat application on your mobile.


  • Scroll down and tap to deselect following check boxes.

5. Tap the More option and choose OK to save and configure the chat account.

After configuration, all the contacts added to your chat account on the server display with their status.

Set up a chat account using Beejive IM application

For setting up a chat account on BlackBerry, you need to download and install BeejiveIM application from BlackBerry App World. For more information on BeejiveIM, visit http://www.beejive.com/download/blackberry/.

You need to follow the instructions mentioned on the site to verify the system requirements as per your BlackBerry model.

To set up your BlackBerry with your chat account, you need to know your Connect Xf Server settings and ports. Also, make sure the port mentioned in the settings is open to connect.


To Set up a chat account on BlackBerry:

1. Go to the Home Screen and launch the BeejiveIM application which displays an Add Account screen.

Note: Beejive application displays a message saying " We can try to find the best connection parameters to use. Run the auto configuration now?. "

  • You can choose Yes to find the connection parameters automatically.
  • Or choose No to continue.


2. On the Add Account screen, scroll down and choose the Jabber option to configure an IM account created on the XMPP server.

3. On this screen, provide the account information.

4. Press the Menu key and choose the Log In option.


BeejiveIM application authorizes the account. After authorization, connects you to the server and fetches contact list from the IM account created on the server.

Add contact to the contact list

1. Press the Menu key and choose Add Buddy option to add a contact to the list.


2. On the Add Buddy screen, provide the contact information.

4. Press the Menu key and choose Add to add the contact to the said group in your contact list.

Send a message to the colleague

It is very convenient to stay connected to all colleagues using this BeejiveIM application.

To send a message to the colleague

  • From the contact list, choose the required contact to send a message.
  • Type the message.
  • Press the Menu key and choose the Send option.

So this way, you can configure your chat account and keep in touch with all the colleagues on the move.


Troubleshooting / FAQs

What is the server name and host name of my server?

SkyConnect Trial Account User

If you are evaluating the mithiskyconnect.com domain the URL or server name used for accessing any application (POP, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, XMPP, CalDAV) is mail.mithiskyconnect.com

Hosted Users

For all hosted users

  • The host name is <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com
  • The server name is your <domain> name

In Premise Users

Please contact administrator to find out the exact URL.

Can I use IP address of the server instead of server name URL?

It is not recommended to use IP address of the server. As IP addresses are not permanent and may change in future.

So, please contact to the administrator if you do not know the URL of your server.

Unable to configure your account? Connection Error?

By default, iOS connects to the server over SSL using the default ports.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails.

So make sure, you have installed/enabled SSL certificate on your server and ports required for connection to the server are open and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Want to connect to the server without using SSL?

Yes, you can connect to the server without using SSL if SSL is configured on it.

Refer the ports required for connection to the server without using SSL.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails. So make sure, required ports are open for connection and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Can not find a copy of an email sent in the Sent Items folder?

For ConnectXf Users

Case 1: Your Connect Xf version is 3.28 +
Solution : Contact Admin
You need to contact admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Enabling the property automatically stores a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 2: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using POP account
Solution : Check the Sent folder
You can find all the mail sent in the Sent folder of the (Outlook/Thunderbird) you are using.
You need to upgrade your ConnectXf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 3: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using IMAP account
Solution 1 : Upgrade the Connect Xf server
You need to upgrade your Connect Xf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Solution 2 Customize the settings
Outlook 2013 To Customize Outlook 2013, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server
Outlook 2010 To Customize Outlook 2010, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server

For SkyConnect Users

Case 1: Save Sent Items user property is disabled for you
Solution Contact Admin
You need to contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Is it possible to save the contacts on the server to my machine? Can I update the contacts on the server?

On configuring an LDAP account in your desktop client, you can lookup for the contacts on the server when you are connected to network. You are not allowed to update the contacts on the server.

For offline use, you can import contacts into your desktop.

Please make a note, you should keep updating the phone contacts on regular interval to have updated list of contacts as on server.
