Configure a calendar account in Thunderbird

You can access your calendar events and tasks using the popular desktop client Thunderbird. Follow the steps mentioned below to configure your account. Refer the troubleshooting topic if you face any problem while configuring the account.

Step 1: Configure the Calendar Plug-in

Calendar Plug-in (Lightning)

  • Lightening an extension to Thunderbird allows you to
- Create calendars
- Subscribe to calendars on the web
- Manage your schedule within Thunderbird
  • Using Lightning plugin, you can sync the calendar hosted on the Connect XF server into Thunderbird.
  • The calendar hosted on the Connect XF server is also accessible via the web client: Baya.

Download Lightning Plug-in

  • Click the link below to download Lightning Plug-in.

  • Download and save the file to your system.


Install Lightning Plug-in

1. Launch the Thunderbird application
2. On the Tools menu, click the select Add-ons option
3. On ehe Add-ons dialog window,

-Click the Install button
-Locate and select the downloaded Lightning Plug-in file
-Click Open to start software installation

4. The Software Installation process begins
5. Application displays a message to confirm if you want to Install add-ons only from authors whom you trust.
6. Click the Install Now button.
7. On successful installation, Restart Thunderbird.
8. Now, Thunderbird shows the Events and Tasks menu option in the main menu.

Step 2: Configure your account

  • Launch the Thunderbird application, and switch to the Calendar tab.

  • Right-click on the Calendar pane and choose the select New Calendar option

  • On the Create new calendar dialog-box,
- Select On the Network as the location of your new calendar.
- Click on Next.

- Choose the CalDAV option as type of calendar to be configured.
- Specify the Location of your calendar on the server in the below format.
  • If your server has SSL installed on it use below string with port 443

 https://<Server Name>:443/ucaldav/user/<User id>/calendar


https://mail.mithiskyconnect.com:443/ucaldav/user/smith@mithiskyconnect.com/calendar
  • If your server has not SSL installed on it use below string with port 80

 https://<Server Name>:80/ucaldav/user/<User id>/calendar


https://mail.mithiskyconnect.com:80/ucaldav/user/smith@mithiskyconnect.com/calendar
  • 443 is the default port number for secured connection to the server.
  • 80 is the default port number for plain connection to the server.

Using Mithi SkyConnect trial account?

Use the User Id received in the Welcome Mail
and Password provided by the Mithi team.



- Click the Next button to proceed.

- Customize the calendar by specifying a name and a color.
- Important: The field E-Mail has to be left blank. Click Next.

For the first time login to the calendar, you will be asked to specify your user name and password in the Authentication Required dialog box.

-Enter your complete email id in the User Name field and your email account password.
-Click OK.

On creating the calendar successfully, Thunderbird displays a message on the screen.
Click Finish to exit the process.

  • Thunderbird syncs all the events and tasks created by using the web client Baya.

You can add, mdify, or delete the calendar entries using Thunderbird.

  • In addition to pop-up alerts, you can receive email alerts for the upcoming events and meetings if the calendar alarm service on your server is on.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

What is the server name and host name of my server?

SkyConnect Trial Account User

If you are evaluating the mithiskyconnect.com domain the URL or server name used for accessing any application (POP, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, XMPP, CalDAV) is mail.mithiskyconnect.com

Hosted Users

For all hosted users

  • The host name is <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com
  • The server name is your <domain> name

In Premise Users

Please contact administrator to find out the exact URL.

Can I use IP address of the server instead of server name URL?

It is not recommended to use IP address of the server. As IP addresses are not permanent and may change in future.

So, please contact to the administrator if you do not know the URL of your server.

Unable to configure your account? Connection Error?

By default, iOS connects to the server over SSL using the default ports.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails.

So make sure, you have installed/enabled SSL certificate on your server and ports required for connection to the server are open and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Want to connect to the server without using SSL?

Yes, you can connect to the server without using SSL if SSL is configured on it.

Refer the ports required for connection to the server without using SSL.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails. So make sure, required ports are open for connection and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Can not find a copy of an email sent in the Sent Items folder?

For ConnectXf Users

Case 1: Your Connect Xf version is 3.28 +
Solution : Contact Admin
You need to contact admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Enabling the property automatically stores a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 2: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using POP account
Solution : Check the Sent folder
You can find all the mail sent in the Sent folder of the (Outlook/Thunderbird) you are using.
You need to upgrade your ConnectXf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 3: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using IMAP account
Solution 1 : Upgrade the Connect Xf server
You need to upgrade your Connect Xf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Solution 2 Customize the settings
Outlook 2013 To Customize Outlook 2013, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server
Outlook 2010 To Customize Outlook 2010, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server

Thunderbird To Customize Thunderbird, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server

For SkyConnect Users

Case 1: Save Sent Items user property is disabled for you
Solution Contact Admin
You need to contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Is it possible to save the contacts on the server to my machine? Can I update the contacts on the server?

On configuring an LDAP account in your desktop client, you can lookup for the contacts on the server when you are connected to network. You are not allowed to update the contacts on the server.

For offline use, you can import contacts into your desktop.

Please make a note, you should keep updating the phone contacts on regular interval to have updated list of contacts as on server.
