Domain Name Service (DNS)
Domain Name Servers (DNS) are used to translate hostnames to IP addresses.
Computers in a network use IP addresses to locate and connect to each other, but IP addresses are difficult for people to remember. A DNS allows you to connect to another network computer or a remote service by using its user-friendly domain name rather than its numerical IP address.
The DNS related queries are handled by the Name server. This server holds the IP of all the computers within it's network and it also cache the recently accessed IP's outside the network. Each computer within the network needs to know the location of the Name server. When a particular user types in the Domain name of a machine, the name server looks up it's IP address.
