Set up an IMAP email account in 6 simple steps

Step 1: Go to the Add Account screen

Go to the Settings screen.

Step 2: Provide account information

Enter your account information and then tap Next.

Step 3: Choose account type

Make sure IMAP option is selected at the top.

Step 4: Provide Incoming Server Settings

Scroll down and enter Incoming Mail Server details.

  • Hostname: Enter server name of the ConnectXf server.
SkyConnect Trial Account user:
Provide the server name as mail.mithiskyconnect.com
ConnectXf User:
Provide the server name in the format <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com
Example: acmecorp.mithiskyconnect.com
Refer the topics to know
  • Username: Provide User id of the account
If you are using Mithi SkyConnect Trial account, provide user id which you have received in the Welcome Mail.

2. Password: Provide Password associated with the account

If you are using Mithi SkyConnect Trial account, provide Password which you have received in the mail by the Mithi Team.

TIP : If you change the password in the future, an error occurs and application fails to fetch emails from the server.

Step 5: Provide Outgoing Server Settings

Scroll down and provide Outgoing Mail Server details. Then, tap Next.

  • Hostname: Enter server name of the Connect Xf server.
  • Username and Password: You must provide same email id and password which you have entered in the Incoming Mail Server settings section.

  • iOS verifies the settings provided and connects using SSL to the server by default.
  • After successful verification, save the configured account on your device.

Follow the steps if you receive the Error: Continue without using SSL?

Step 6: Save the account

Tap to Save the account on your device.

Now, your account is configured and listed under Accounts section on your device.

Configure account without SSL

By default iOS configures the account using secured (SSL) connection. If you have not installed SSL on your server follow the steps mentioned below to configure your account without using SSL.

Contact your admin if you are Unable to connect using SSL?

Refer the details mentioned above

Step 1: Go to the Add Account screen
Step 2: Provide account information
Step 3: Choose account type
Step 4: Provide Incoming Server Settings
Step 5: Provide Outgoing Server Settings

Step 6: Continue without SSL

iOS displays a warning message on the screen.
Tap Yes to continue the the configuration on the device without using SSL.

Step 7: Save the account

Tap to Save the account on your device.

Now, your account is configured and listed under Accounts section on your device.

Step 8: Make sure SSL option is OFF

Go to the Advanced screen.

Step 4: Provide Incoming and Outgoing Server Settings

Incoming / Outgoing Mail Server Details

  • Hostname: Enter server name of the ConnectXf server.
SkyConnect Trial Account user:
Provide the server name as mail.mithiskyconnect.com
ConnectXf User:
Provide the server name in the format <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com
Example: acmecorp.mithiskyconnect.com

2. Username: Provide User id of the account

If you are using Mithi SkyConnect Trial account, provide user id which you have received in the Welcome Mail.

Configure account without SSL

Manage your account

View your mailbox

From home screen tap the mail icon and choose your account to view emails from your mailbox.

Refer the topic if you can not get mail in the Inbox.

  • Now you can compose your message, add attachments to the message and send it to required recipients.
  • Tapping the To/Cc/Bcc field, application displays a list contacts on your mobile. Choose the required contact from the list.
  • All the sent messages are stored in the Sent folder on the device.

From ConnectXf version 3.28 the Sent folder syncs automatically with the Sent Items folder on the server.

  • Otherwise you need to configure settings to save a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Can not locate my sent messages in the Sent Items folder

  • You can access all the shared/global contacts of your organization, configure an LDAP account on your iOS device.
  • Also, if required you can import your personal contacts to your mobile device.

View IMAP folders

Note:

You can access all the IMAP folders on your mobile only If you have configured an IMAP type of account on your device.

iPhone mail application syncs all the IMAP folders from server to your device automatically. To view IMAP folders, tap your account from Inbox screen.

Set default mail account

If you have configured multiple email accounts on your iPhone, you can set a default mail account from the list.

Default account setting option is visible only when multiple accounts are configured on your device.

To set your email account as a default account:

  • Go to the Home screen and choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Then, scroll down, tap Default Account and then choose your account.

Save a copy of an email sent on the server

If you are a Connect Xf user using version below 3.28 and have configured an IMAP email account, you need to customize the settings for your account to save a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Connect Xf (Version 3.28+) users will receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on server automatically.

By default iPhone save a copy of an email sent in the Sent folder on iPhone. It is a good practice to save it on the server.

To save a copy of an email sent on the server:

  • Go to the Advanced settings of the mail account.
  • Tap to choose the Sent Mailbox settings.
  • Here, choose the Sent Items folder on the server.

TIP:
To navigate to the Advanced Settings screen:

  • Go to Home screen and choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Tap to choose your mail account.
  • Scroll down and choose Advanced option.


Save a copy of a draft on the server

Note:

You can access all the IMAP folders on your mobile only If you have configured an IMAP type of account on your device.

By default iPhone saves the draft in the Drafts folder on iPhone. It is a good practice to save it on the server.

To save a draft on the server:

  • Go to the Advanced settings of the mail account.
  • Tap to choose the Drafts Mailbox settings.
  • Here, choose the Drafts folder on the server.

TIP:

To go to the Advanced Settings screen:

  • Go to Home screen and choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Tap to choose your mail account.
  • Scroll down and choose Advanced option.

Move the deleted email on the server

By default iPhone moves the deleted email in the Trash folder on iPhone. It is a good practice to save it on the server.

To move the deleted email in the Trash folder on the server:

  • Go to the Advanced settings of the mail account.
  • Tap to choose the Deleted Mailbox settings.
  • Here, choose the Trash folder on the server.

TIP:
To go to the Advanced Settings screen:

  • Go to Home screen and choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Tap to choose your mail account.
  • Scroll down and choose Advanced option.

Update Password

  • Go to Home screen and choose Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars
  • Tap to choose your mail account.
  • Tap SMTP > Change password of the account
  • Scroll down and choose Advanced option > choose Incoming Server Settings > update password of your account

Set minimum background fetch interval

Schedule minimum background fetch interval to improve the battery life of your iOS device.

To set minimum background fetch interval

1. From home screen, go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendar

2. Scroll down to tap the Fetch New Data option.

Choose the option so that iOS will fetch the data less frequently. If you choose to fetch data foe every 15 minutes, iOS will wake up every 15 minutes for that.
This could affect the battery life of the iPhone.

Remove account from device

1. Go to Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars screen

2. Tap to choose your account from the list

What is the server name of my server?

SkyConnect Trial Account User

If you are evaluating the mithiskyconnect.com domain the URL or server name used for accessing any application (POP, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, XMPP, CalDAV) is mail.mithiskyconnect.com

Hosted Users

For all hosted users the URL or server name is <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com .

In Premise Users

Please contact administrator to find out the exact URL.

Can I use IP address of the server instead of server name URL?

It is not recommended to use IP address of the server. As IP addresses are not permanent and may change in future.

So, please contact to the administrator if you do not know the URL of your server.

Unable to configure your account? Connection Error?

Configuring you account using SSL?

Check the list of ports required for connection to the server mentioned below.

Protocol Secured Connection Port number
IMAP SSL 993
POP SSL 995
SMTP SSL 25


If the ports are not open for connection or blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails.

So make sure, you have installed/enabled SSL certificate on your server and all the required ports are open for connection.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Want to connect to the server without using SSL?

Check the list of ports required for Plain connection to the server mentioned below.

SMTP Plain without SSL 25

If the ports mentioned are not open for connection or blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails. So make sure, all the required ports are open for connection and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Can not locate messages in my Sent Items folder on server which I have sent using email application on my mobile

For ConnectXf Users

Case 1: Your Connect Xf version is 3.28 +
Solution : Contact Admin
You need to contact admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Enabling the property automatically stores a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 2: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using POP account
Solution : Check the Sent folder
You can find all the mail sent in the Sent folder of the device you are using.
You need to upgrade your Connect Xf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 3: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using IMAP account
Solution 1 : Upgrade the Connect Xf server
You need to upgrade your Connect Xf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Solution 2 Customize the settings
IMAP email account
  • Go to the Manage Account tab
  • Follow the steps mentioned in the topic
- Save a copy of an email sent on the server

For SkyConnect Users

Case 1: Save Sent Items user property is disabled for you
Solution Contact Admin
You need to contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Application shows an error "Can not Get Mail"

I have changed the password of the account and updated the same in the account settings, still facing the "Can not Get Mail" error

1. Have you changed your password of the account recently?

If you have changed the password associated with your account, application fails to connect to the server and shows a warning message similar to the screenshot shown here.

  • Go to the Settings > Mail, Contacts, and Calendars screen.
  • Tap your Email account to update the settings.
  • Update the password in the Incoming and Outgoing server settings.
  • Save the changes.
  • Re-start the application.

Tip: Close the Email application and open it again.

To close the application,

  • Press the Home button two times quickly. You'll see small previews of your recently used apps.
  • Swipe left to find the app you want to close.
  • Swipe up on the app's preview to close it.

2. Check if the Auto-Capitalization setting of your device is ON?

By default, iOS keeps the Auto-Capitalization feature of your device ON which capitalizes the first letter of the first word you type after ending a previous sentence with a period, question mark, or exclamation point.

As you start typing the password, the first letter gets capitalized automatically without your knowledge. This results the connection error.

So, make sure you are providing the correct password associated with your account.

Alternatively, you can turn the Auto-Capitalization feature OFF from
the Settings> General> Keyboard screen.


3. Still facing the error?

If you are still face the same error, delete the account and re-configure the account on your device.
