Configure an email account in Apple Mac

This document explains, how to connect an Apple Mac with the Connect Xf server using IMAP email synchronization. And, access inbox and all the IMAP folders using your Apple Mac.

Follow the steps mentioned below to configure your account and refer the troubleshooting topic if you face any problem while configuring your account.


Step 1: Create an email account

1. From the Home screen, launch the Mail application.

2. On the Mail menu, choose the Add Account option

2.1 From the list of preferred mail accounts,

choose the Other Mail Account option and Continue.

3. On the Add a Mail Account dialog box, provide

Name: Name of the account to identify from the list of accounts
Email Address: User-id of the account
Password Password associated with the account

Using Mithi SkyConnect trial account?

Use the User Id received in the Welcome Mail
and Password provided by the Mithi team.

Step 2: Provide Account Details

You may receive a warning showing Unable to verify the account name or password

Provide the details of your account manually.

  • Account Type: Choose the IMAP option from the list
  • Incoming Mail Server: Provide server name of your incoming mail server
  • Outgoing Mail Server: Provide server name of your outgoing/SMTP server
  • Sign In to configure your account

Application verifies all the credentials provided and configures the account in Mac.

Step 3: Configure to save an email sent to Sent Items folder on server

This is an optional step. By default, an email sent from your Mac account is stored in the Sent Messages folder on the server. Where as, you can find all the email sent from Baya in the Sent Items folder. You may get confused with the folder while locating the exact copy of an email sent.

To avoid this confusion, you can configure to save the copy of an email sent in the Sent Items folder on the server.

  • On the left pane, select the Sent Items folder from the IMAP folders.
  • Choose the menu Mailbox > Use This Mailbox As > Sent Mailbox

Now, all the email sent will be stored in the Sent Items folder on the server.

Troubleshooting / FAQs

What is the server name and host name of my server?

SkyConnect Trial Account User

If you are evaluating the mithiskyconnect.com domain the URL or server name used for accessing any application (POP, IMAP, SMTP, LDAP, XMPP, CalDAV) is mail.mithiskyconnect.com

Hosted Users

For all hosted users

  • The host name is <domain>.mithiskyconnect.com
  • The server name is your <domain> name

In Premise Users

Please contact administrator to find out the exact URL.

Can I use IP address of the server instead of server name URL?

It is not recommended to use IP address of the server. As IP addresses are not permanent and may change in future.

So, please contact to the administrator if you do not know the URL of your server.

Unable to configure your account? Connection Error?

By default, iOS connects to the server over SSL using the default ports.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails.

So make sure, you have installed/enabled SSL certificate on your server and ports required for connection to the server are open and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Want to connect to the server without using SSL?

Yes, you can connect to the server without using SSL if SSL is configured on it.

Refer the ports required for connection to the server without using SSL.
If the ports are not open for connection and blocked in the Firewall, connection error occurs and configuration fails. So make sure, required ports are open for connection and not blocked in the firewall.

Please contact your admin to check if there is not a port issue.

Can not find a copy of an email sent in the Sent Items folder?

For ConnectXf Users

Case 1: Your Connect Xf version is 3.28 +
Solution : Contact Admin
You need to contact admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Enabling the property automatically stores a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 2: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using POP account
Solution : Check the Sent folder
You can find all the mail sent in the Sent folder of the (Outlook/Thunderbird) you are using.
You need to upgrade your ConnectXf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Case 3: Your Connect Xf version is below 3.28 and you are using IMAP account
Solution 1 : Upgrade the Connect Xf server
You need to upgrade your Connect Xf to the latest version to receive a copy of an email sent to the Sent Items folder automatically. After upgrade contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.
Solution 2 Customize the settings
Outlook 2013 To Customize Outlook 2013, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server
Outlook 2010 To Customize Outlook 2010, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server
Outlook 2007
Thunderbird To Customize Thunderbird, - Select the Manage Account tab - Refer the steps mentioned in the topic  : Save a copy of mail sent to the Sent Items folder on server

For SkyConnect Users

Case 1: Save Sent Items user property is disabled for you
Solution Contact Admin
You need to contact your admin to enable the Save Sent Items user property for you. Once this option is enabled, all the messages sent (From mobile/Desktop) sync automatically to the Sent Items folder on the server.

Is it possible to save the contacts on the server to my machine? Can I update the contacts on the server?

On configuring an LDAP account in your desktop client, you can lookup for the contacts on the server when you are connected to network. You are not allowed to update the contacts on the server.

For offline use, you can import contacts into your desktop.

Please make a note, you should keep updating the phone contacts on regular interval to have updated list of contacts as on server.
