Duplicate mail check property malfunctions when the mail store is on NAS

Symptoms

  • Mails get deferred in the queue
  • The /var/log/maillog indicates errors, where the mdc program of Connect XF is not able to write to the duplicate mail cache.

Diagnosis

  • The nlockmgr requires different ports each time it connects to the NAS.

Possible causes

  • In a NAS shared store environment, due to multiple hosts writing to the same cache file, there is a locking issue which causes the file to be locked for writing.

Resolution

  • Due to the above reason, the complete network traffic between the server and the NAS device needs to be opened/allowed.
vi /mithi/mcs/components/mithi-fw-iptables/conf/server/iptables.rules.sh
Add the following lines after
Allow unlimited traffic on loopback duplicate mail not wrking with NAS mount
#########################################################
# Allow the Complete NAS traffic
$IPTABLES -t filter -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p udp -s <IP of NAS>
$IPTABLES -t filter -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p udp -d <IP of NAS>
$IPTABLES -t filter -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -s <IP of NAS>
$IPTABLES -t filter -j ACCEPT -A INPUT -p tcp -d <IP of NAS>
  • For confirmation execute
rpcinfo -u <IP of NAS> nlockmgr
