Newly added user is unable to receive an email: MailFiltersMDC:: Error regening mailfilters

Observation

Newly added user is unable to receive an email.

Diagnosis

This may happen if the advanced search/knowledge discovery option is enabled.

  • View maillog to check out the error using following command.
cat /var/log/maillog | grep <error>

For example

cat /var/log/maillog | grep "Error_regening_mailfilters"
Below is an example of maillog showing mailfilters error

  • View tomcat log to check out the error using following command.
cat /var/log/tomcat/catalina.out | grep "testuser6" | grep "Indexer" -i

Cause

  • When new user is added the values stored in LDAP are 'regened' or 'regenerated' which requires Tomcat2 service.
  • If the advanced search or knowledge discovery option is enabled its uses more CPU memory and RAM due to which Tomcat2 hangs and stops responding.
  • The advanced search or knowledge discovery feature is no longer in use so it should be disabled on domain level.

Solution

  • Disable the advanced search option on domain level.

To disable this option, use following command:


 /mithi/mcs/bin/setdomainproperties.sh --domain ecil.co.in --'''enableadvancedsearch false''' --replace --callerid superuser --callerpassword superuser

  • Restart tomcat2 service
/etc/init.d/tomcat2 restart
